The Excelsior, a Luxury Collection Hotel (Florence)

Between 1926-1928, Swiss hotelier Gerald Kraft combined two adjacent hotels, the Hotel Excelsior de la Ville and the Hotel Italie. The resulting 250-room Excelsior Hotel Italie was inaugurated in 1928. In 1958, ownership passed to CIGA, then in 1994 to Sheraton Hotels, and in 1998 to Starwood Hotels, when the property became The Westin Excelsior Florence. After Marriott purchased the chian, it switched to The Luxury Collection in 2025.
