German Battleship Tirpitz

Norway / Troms / Tromso /
Second World War 1939-1945, shipwreck, battleship

This is her final resting location. She was attacked by British midget submarines in September 1943 and put out of action for the first time. Later submitted to continuous aerial bombings, the Tirpitz was finally sunk here on 12 November 1944 after being hit by 5.4-ton "Tallboy" bombs. More than 1000 German Kriegsmarine sailors died on her.

She was later broken up and sold for scrap except for the last 400 feet of heavily damaged BOW Section.

  • if u look close enough it look like u can see a part of a ship
  • I can make out what part that would be, but if anything I would say part of the keel or something else.
  • What you see is actually the platform used to dismantle the wreck. It has been pulled a bit inshore and left there after the work has been done, the remains of the Tirpitz are further and are invisible on Google's arial photos.
