There was an earlier Midway Stadium built here in the mid-1950s. It was intended to possibly lure a major league team, but the larger Metropolitan Stadium won out. This Midway was home of the AAA Saints for the first few years and was later used as a Vikings practice site before being destroyed in the early 80s, when the smaller Midway Stadium was built to the west.
