This substation is the start of the oldest powerline in the world. It goes from here in San Bernardino to Bishop, a distance of over 200 miles. If it wasn't for this line operated by Southern California Edison, US Highway 395 would not exist. This powerline was built in the late teens around 1918 or 1919. The dirt service road that went along the line a few years later became US 395. Unfortunately, Highway 395 was decommissioned and no longer goes from Canada to San Diego. It stops at Hesperia, California.
