city, county seat
Everett is a city around 25 miles north of Seattle and is the county seat of Snohomish county. It has a population just over 100,000.
Everett is home to a large U.S. Naval base and the world's largest building, owned by Boeing, where the jet planes are assembled. Everett is an often overlooked , but it is in its own right, a very nice city with its own personality. Everett has a nice location in between Puget Sound and the Snohomish River. Everett's historic district is home to many beautiful old houses such as former Senator Henry M. Jackson's home.
Owned by the Port of Everett, Jetty Island is a 2-mile long man made island that has warm sandy beaches which are uncommon in the Pacific Northwest. Jetty Island is the result of a failed attempt in the early 1900s by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to create a freshwater harbor west of downtown Everett. Today it is a public park with regular Summer ferry service from the Everett Marina.
Many Seattle media companies have Sattelite locations in Everett. Everett is covered by The Seattle Times, as well as localy The Everett Herald. Everett is home to the Minor-League baseball team The Everett Aqua-Sox which has been affiliated with the Seattle Mariners since 1995. They play home games at Memorial Stadium, which has a little bit of the feel of a small town baseball diamond despite the now 100,000 people who live in Everett. The city is also home to the minor-League Hockey Team the Everett Silver-tips, who play in The Everett Events Center.
The Events Center is a large multi-purpose venue that regularly hosts shows by famous artists on tour such as Kanye West, Duran Duran, Def Leppard, as well as many others. The venue also serves a wide variety of events from Political speakers to Disney on Ice. The Event Center has a large sail like suspension structure on its roof giving the everett skyline a similar look to that of Tacoma, with the SR-509 bridge which has a similar look.
