The USS Sailfish was the lead ship in her class of radar picket submarines and served with the US Navy from 1956 to 1978, eventually being reclassified as a attack sub.
Following her decommissioning, she was placed into the Reserve Fleet at Bremerton where she remained for 30 years before she was used as a target ship and sunk at this location in 1,457 fathoms.
