The Rathburne was the 6th member of the Knox Class Frigates and saw service with the US Navy from 1970 to 1992 when her age and the end of the Cold War led to her decommissioning.
She entered the Reserve Fleet at Pearl Harbor where she remained until July 5th, 2002 when she was sunk at this location in 2,552 fathoms during RIMPAC 2002. She absorbed 5-inch shells from 1 Cruiser, 3 Destroyers and 1 Cost Guard Cutter as well as 2 Harpoon Anti-Ship missiles before she went down.
