Kéfalos Hill

Greece / Kiklades / Naousa /

Distinctive conical hill rising above nearby village of Marpissa. There's a path that leads up to the top, where the small monastery of agios Andonios is situated. The original site was where the last of the Venetians who ruled Paros took a stand against the Ottoman Turks in 1537. The ruins of the old buildings are near the new one, which includes a pleasant chapel and terrific views out to Naxos. The chapel is open fairly regularly, and if not, you may see one of the locals from Marpissa hiking up the hill with a key to unlock it. --grecodan
