Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City was established in 1946, is a part of the US Coast Guard's Ninth District, sector Lake Michigan and operates 5 H-65 Dolphin Helicopters in both maritime security and search and rescue roles. The station's area of operations includes all of Lake Michigan and a greater part of Lake Superior and Lake Huron.
