Earlier this place was known as Aristo round tana - as it is in front of Hotel ARISTO. After the insatallation of the life size Statue of Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar in 1996,the roundtana is known as AMBEDKAR ROUND TANA.

Dr.B.R Ambedkar's life size Bronze statue (of about 8Feet height and 1.5 Ton weight) was installed on 2-11-1996;by ANNAL AMBEDKAR ARUMPANI MANDRAM of BHEL Employees under the leadership of Sri.M.Damodharan and Sri.R.KARMEGAN-Senior Officers of BHEL.

The same place was identified and earmarked by the TIRUCHY MUNICIPALITY some time during 1974-75 by the untired effor and initiatives of Sri.M.M.Swamy. Since he could not mobilise the finance required for the installation of the statue, ANNAL AMBEDKAR AUMPANI MANDRAM came forward and full filled his dream in 1996 - almost about20 years afterwards - in the presence of Sri. M.M.Swamy himself; by Hon'ble Sri. PARITHI ILAMVAZHUTHI- the then Deputy Speaker of the TAMILNADU Assembly and the present Minister for Information of the TAMILNADU Government.
