Tanuki-dani San Fudoin Temple (Kyoto)

Japan / Kyoto / Kyoto / Ichijoji Matsuhara-cho, 6
 temple, interesting place, buddhist temple

A famous Shingon sect temple .
It is known as a "tanuki (racoon) temple" and a "place where takuki come to die"; people bring old tanuki figures here. Also, people come here to pray for healing (mostly from various types of cancer). Some people come for talismans for driving in Kyoto.
The original name of the tample used to be 咤怒鬼不動明王 - something like "protection from evil devils", but the first three kanji can be read phonetically as "tanuki", hence the connection with these supposedly magical animals.
Also, the place is known by its connection with famous warrior, Miyamoto Musashi (宮本 武蔵, c. 1584 – June 13, 1645), who used to practice in the woods here.
