Mt.Kasuga and Kasugayama forest are designated as a UNESCO-protected heritage. It is known, among other things, for deer freely roaming around, and for thousands of "toro" lanterns - they are lit on 3 February for Setsubunn and on 13-14 August for Obon. A road of toro lanterns is known as mantoro - "path of a thousand lanterns".
