This original manor house of Appleby Magna was built in the 11th Century.
The house that can be viewed to day is the gate house of the 11th century manor, and a 15th century black and white, half-timbered extension.
The most famous resident was Sir Edmund De Appleby. A knight famed for fighting at the battle of crecy.
Other famous residents include Joyce De Appleby, A Christian Martyr, burned at the stake in Coventry under the rule of Catholic, Bloody Mary.
