beach, naturism

A gorgeous beach in the Marin Headlands, Black Sands is reached by an easy trail down the coastal cliffs from a parking lot on Conzelman Road. It has gorgeous views of the Golden Gate Bridge (and the Golden Gate), with the City behind. It is named for the unusual black sand, one of the few such beaches not of volcanic origin. Frequently shrouded in the cold San Francisco fog, Black Sands becomes a gem when the sky is clear. The sands get much warmer (or hotter) than on other beaches, while the ocean is always colder than you'd think possible. The beach is unofficially clothing optional, and clothed and naked patrons coexist very peacefully, San Francisco tolerant-style.
