Qattara Depression

The Qattara Depression, covering about 18,000 km² (7,000 square miles), is a desert basin located in the Libyan Desert of northwestern Egypt. At 133 meters below sea level it is the second lowest point in Africa.
The bottom of the depression consists of a salt pan. The depression has no settlements and other than nomadic herders it supports no commercial activity. It contains many highly isolated, wild oases, and is home to numerous Acacia groves and is an important ...habitat for the Cheetah.
