Constructed in 1860, the present Gothic style, brick edifice with ornate stone replaced an earlier chuch built in 1825 on the same site. The first mass was celebrated in the current building in 1861.
Designed by Anthony and Louis Piket, the church is the last remaining part of a complex that included a high school and an elementary school. Destroyed by fire in 1882, the church was rebuilt without replacing the original steeple. The high school closed in the 1960s.
