Originally planned as a satellite to Cluntoe, opened 01/43 and used as an emergency landing ground. 07/43 to 09/43, No. 104 Operational Training Unit with Wellingtons from Nutt's Corner.
07/43, Transferred to the 8th USAAF becoming 3rd Combat Crew Replacement Centre 11/43. 3rd CCRC trained A-20 Havoc and B-26 Marauder crews for the 9th USAAF until closure 11/44.
11/44, Toome airfield transferred back to the RAF but not used by aircraft again. 06/45 to 03/47, No. 257 Maintenance Unit for equipment storage. The runways were resurfaced in 1953 but not used. RAF closure 1954, site then used by the Royal Navy for aircraft turret repairs until 1959, airfield sold off in 1961
