The city of Cáceres is a real museum in itself. It has remains from all ages of its history, very well preserved thanks to its inhabitants and to various administrations. From its origins, with the founding of Norba Caesarina in 34 BC, through Muslim Al-Cazires, the conquest of Alfonso IX, the foundation of the Order of Santiago, or the period of the Conquest of America, Cáceres enjoys a rich artistic and monumental heritage. Outstanding among its most symbolic buildings are the Procathedral church of Santa María la Mayor (12th to 16th C), the church of the Society of Jesus ( 18th C), church of San Juan Bautista (13th to 18th C), church of San Mateo (15th to 18th C), church of Santiago (16th C), the Plaza Mayor, the Plaza de San Mateo, the Plaza de Santa María, and many others.
