This service interchange at the north end of Wilmington, North Carolina is essentially the eastern terminus of Interstate 40, the third longest Interstate Highway in the U.S. The interchange is fundamentally a diamond, with one folded loop ramp (the eastbound exit), connecting to Gordon Road. However, the interchange also serves to split US-117 and NC-132 from I-40 to the west (cardinal north). Southbound US-117/NC-132 connects to Gordon Road across from the folded ramp at a traffic signal. An additional flyover within the interchange allows US-117/NC-132 northbound to entirely bypass Gordon Road.
