Belmond is a city in Wright County, Iowa, United States. It is located along U.S. Highway 69, 14 miles by road from Clarion, the county seat. The population was 2,463 at the 2020 census. It is the only town in the United States named Belmond.
On October 14, 1966, a tornado ripped apart the community, destroying or damaging about 600 homes and 75 businesses. Six people were killed and large swaths of the town were left in ruins. Most residents remained, damaged buildings were restored, and the City's population soon exceeded the pre-tornado level (of 2,506 residents).
