St. Charles Towne Center opened March 30th, 1990, and is managed by Simon. Its original anchors were Hecht's, Sears, JC Penney's and Montgomery Ward. Kohls was added in 1996 on an empty anchor pad that was originally reserved for either a Macys or Woodward and Lothrop. The Montgomery Wards closed in 2000 and was replaced with Dicks Sporting Goods on the upper level and a Hecht's Home Store on the bottom level. On September 6, 2006, both Hechts locations were converted to Macy's. This is one of Simon's six best performing shopping mall in terms of sales per square foot.
