Number 3 Barbette

USA / Hawaii / Aiea /
ruins, gun, battleship, United States Navy

Formerly the armored turret barbette for USS Arizona's #3 triple 14-inch gun mount, today the barbette remains one of the only pieces of USS Arizona which lie above the surface of Pearl Harbor.

Following the loss of Arizona, the gun turrets from both her #3 and #4 mounts were removed and repurposed as coastal defense batteries on Oahu, named Battery Pennsylvania and Battery Arizona. The Number 3 Gun Turret was emplaced at Battery Pennsylvania on Oahu's East Coast after an extensive construction period, and was test fired once on V-J Day.
