The Fern Cottage is the focal point of the 160 acre plot of land issued in 1866 to pioneer Joseph Russ. For 60 years after the completion of the original house, several additions were made to the structure but no major additions were completed past 1900. Several small updates were completed prior to 1930 but much of the house remains as it did over 100 years ago.
