Khachmach

Khachmach (Armenian: Խաչմաչ) is a village de facto in the Askeran Province of the Republic of Artsakh. The village has an ethnic Armenian-majority population, and also had an Armenian majority in 1989. Khachmahz village was founded in 1600s. Now it has population of 300 people.Historical heritage sites in and around the village include a 13th-century khachkar, St. Stephen's Church (Armenian: Սուրբ Ստեփանոս եկեղեցի, romanized: Surb Stepanos Yekeghetsi) built in 1651, a 17th-century cemetery, and the 18th-century church of Shoshkavank (Armenian: Շոշկավանք), restored in the 20th century.
