Gulabird village is located on the bank of Hakari river, in the foothills. His former name was Garachanli. Garachanli is the name of the generation living in the village. The settlement is so named because it is located near the Gulebird fortress, known to the locals as Govurgala. The name of Gulebird fortress means "clay fortress, fortress belonging to gels".
It was occupied by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia in September 1993.
November 9, 2020 was liberated from occupation by the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan.
His former name was Garachanli. Until the abolition of the Karabakh khanate in 1822, the present-day Gulabird village and surrounding areas were subordinated to the Karabakh khanate located in the central city of Shusha. After the collapse of the Karabakh khanate in 1822-1840, the area was governed by the commandant's office, and in 1840, the Karabakh province was transformed into the Shusha district. When Yelizavetpol province was established in 1868, Shusha province was subordinated to this province. In 1974, a new Zangazur district was established and most of the Lachin region was included in this district. Accidents were abolished in 1929 and in 1930 Lachin region was created. Novruzalilar, Yukhari Mazmazak, Ashagi Mazmazak, Orta oba, Abash winter camp, Rafi, Bayramushagi villages, whose settlement started in the XVI-XVII centuries, were given to Lachin region.
It was formed in 1956 from the merger of Novruzalilar, Yukhari Mazmazak, Ashagi Mazmazak, Orta Oba, Abash Qishlagi, Rafi, Bayramushagi villages, which have similar ancient histories. There was a village in the ancient Zangazur district. Gulebird village is one of the villages of Lachin region distinguished by its population, size of territory, diversity of economy, favorable climate and geographical position. Gulebird village is the last village on the right bank of the Hakari river, in the southern part of Lachin region. It is located on the border of Gubadli region and the Republic of Armenia, which stretches for kilometers. The main occupations of the population are livestock and agriculture.
