Jabrayil (Cəbrayıl) is de jure and de facto an administrative territorial entity in the south-western part of the Republic of Azerbaijan,The area was controlled by unrecognized Artashk from 1993 to 2020. According to the last 1989 Soviet census, there were 49,156 people living in the rayon. Jabrail rayon has productive soils, and before the war the population was mostly involved in agriculture. Jabrail shares its southern borders with Iran.
