The Castle has been built in 1920 by J. Smith de Vasconcelos as his personal residence. It´s famous due to the fact that it has been drawn by two famous Brazilian architects Lúcio Costa and Fernando Valentim. It´s the only medieval castle in Americas.

The construction has been done by 20 European families with European materials, such as Portuguese´s stones, French´s roof, Italian´s marble. The doors and windows are made of jacarandá, with English´s ironware; Austrian´s glasses, and the doors of each chamber have the names of its owners painted in gold.

The construction took around 5 years. The Castle has 42 rooms with insteresting histories of the Smith de Vasconcelos´ family in Brazil.

Important people from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo visited the Castle while the Smith de Vasconcelos lived in there.
In 1992 in the Castle there has been an auction of Smith de Vasconcelos´ items.
