  • Once known as Paranthan Kulam a govt. poramboke area occupied by daily wage earners and people who could not afford to buy proper land to construct their houses, having drivers, conductors, and people involved in some sort of poor services, became Bakthavatchalam Puram and then rechristened as Manakavalampillai Nagar. The Congress Committee and a small ration shop in the small hamlet gave relief to the people in many ways. The hamlet was not provided with proper roads, electricity till mid eighties. Floods and destroyed houses are still in the memories of the inhabitants. Wading through knee deep water with school bags and tiffin boxes on head were enjoyed by the little school goers during monsoon. St.Peter's Church [CSI] of Tirunelveli Diocese was started in this hamlet with less than 10 families in late sixties. The services rendered by these families are significant. Every week sunday night prayer meetings, collection of handful of rice from every families [auctioned to raise funds] were the primary activities which strengthened the fellowship, love, affection and unity among the families to build a church for the glory of God the Almighty. Presently the church has grown with more than 150 families and the village has been provided with electricity, power, road, water. The only need now is the sewarage connection. I wish the District Administration will meet this requirement early to have proper sanitation in the area.
  • I also wish that the people now should cooperate with the Govt. Department and pay the dues wherever needed to get the Patta for regularization of their settlement forgeting all the political differences and keeping in my mind the sacrifies made by the early settlers in this area.
