Was originally a defensive military construction, built by the Saxons in 1360, near Boiţa, Sibiu county. It was completed in 1370 under King Louis I of Hungary in order to survey the Olt River Gorge, located near the old border with Romanian State.
First document appears in the Latin diploma of Hungarian King Ladislaus the Fifth since 1453, when the commune was incorporated in the Seven Seats of Cibiniensis province.
Main fortification is the rectangle tower, 4 floors, narrow windows used for firing rifles. The second tower, hexagon plan, was built several decades later and connects by a wall to the tower erected at the side of the road (early XVIIIth century).
