Charles Kuhn was a German immigrant to Indianapolis who owned a successful meatpacking business and built this Italianate home for his family at 413 West Michigan Street in 1879. A $2.1 million project restored the National Register-listed home to its original glory and added a compatible addition, separated from the historic structure via a three-story glass atrium to symbolize the division between old and new.
Until 2011, Indiana Landmarks was headquartered in the building. As of 2025, it is known at the IU Advancement Center, with Indianapolis-based offices for the IU Foundation and IU Alumni Association.
