Home to the Soldiers & Sailors Monument, Lafayette Square was part of the original urban plan for the city laid out by Joseph Ellicott in 1804 and has long been a public meeting point for rallies and demonstrations. Continuing this role today, the square is the site of the popular Thursday at the Square summertime free concert series.
