  Many years ago prior to the McDonald's, there was a gas station/service station here. (Believe it was a BP). When the McDonald's was approved for this site, its proximity to the historical Ferry Farm created quite a controversy. Eventually, it was decided that the restaurant's exterior would be clad in more natural material. Originally, in this case, a brown stained wood siding along with natural wood roof shakes was selected. This seemed to lessen the controversy of having development so close to Ferry Farm. However, several years later, once there was more development in the area, the brown siding was painted gloss white and the roof shakes were replaced with the golden arch's iconic red shingles.
