Βyzantine castle-town (polis) build in 10th century found in sources under the names Alektriopolis, between the 11th-13th century as Alektropolis and during the 14th century as Anaktoropolis and Eleftheropolis.Those different names confused the archaeologists and historians for some years.
Build on the ruins of the ancient castle-town (polis) of Aisimi or Isimi (7th century B.C) which has been mentioned by Homerus in Iliad..A Thasian colony,who later was alliance within the Athenian alliance in north Greece,and who finally let the Athenian alliance in order to join forces with sergeant Vrasidas,an Athenian enemy from Sparta who had a plan to attack first all small Athenian alliances in the north and later to attack the unsupported Athens itself.The peninsula where the castle is situated is named after Vrasidas.
