Due to a growing underclassmen class size, Butler University made the decision to build additional on-campus housing for upperclassmen. The new dorms are apartment-style, with four people per apartment, sharing two people per bathroom. They are scheduled to be complete in time for upperclassmen to move into them before the Fall '06 semester.

Great controversy has surrounded the new Apartment Village. First, many people object to the price. It is significantly higher than other dorms on campus. even without purchasing any sort of meal plan. The new AV is also on the far end of campus, making it a bit more difficult to get to class quickly for those of us that like to sleep in. In addition, those of us that signed up early for the new apartments got stuck with the higher rate of room and board, while those upperclassment who elected to stay in resco were moved to the new dorms, but at the reduced rate of the Resco Dormitory. Because of the difficulties the university administration has had in filling the new AV, effective for the '07-'08 school year, freshmen, sophmores, and juniors are required to live on campus, in order to take full advantage of the on-campus housing opportunities available.
