During the days Bunker Hill / Grissom housed a strategic nuclear bomb wing, there was a row of earthen humps here, inside of which were reinforced bunkers where the 305th Bomb Wing stored dozens and dozens of hydrogen bombs of several types. The weapons were mounted in the "on-alert" B-47s (from apx. 1958-1961) and B-58s (from 1961-1970) stationed just yards to the northwest of this location.
