This was the SAC alert barracks, partially subterranean, where on-alert crews for the 305th Bomb Wing lived for one week at a time, next to their fully-armed and fueled nuclear bombers. The facility had dormitory-style accommodations for the three-man crews (for either the B-47 or the B-58), a cafeteria, and mission planning facilities. From here, crews could immediately sprint to their planes, and get the “cocked” bombers underway in just two or three minutes.
