These hardstands and taxiways and facilties comprised the "alert" area for USAF strategic nuclear bombers, fully-fueled and armed, during the late 1950s up until late 1969. Until 1961, the stands held one B-47 each, parked in the open air. From 1961, each stand held two of the smaller B-58s, inside dual metal open-ended "Pup tent" hangars. Its capacity was 11 B-47s or 22 B-58s.
