Rechristened 'Anugrah' in memory of his late daughter Anusha, this is the current official residence of Shri Ajit Jogi, MP, and First
Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. Formerly known as "Sagoun (teak) Bungalow" because it functioned as an auction house for teak-
merchants during the Raj, it has a rather dubious distinction of having jinxed all its occupants, including a former Director General
of Police. After the formation of the state, the then Leader of Opposition, Mr Nandkumar Sai, outrightly refused to move into this
house for this reason. Mr Jogi, who categorically rubbishes this 'superstition', met with a serious accident while campaigning in
March 2004 that has confined him to a wheelchair ever since; shortly afterwards his son Amit was arrested in July 2005. All this after
he moved into this house, allotted especially to him by the incumbent state government in January 2004. However the jinx seems to
be wearing off lately: Amit got out on bail in May 2006; Jogi's wife Renu got elected to the state assembly after a bye-election in
December 2006; and a case disputing his status as a tribal was dismissed by the High Court. Whether the Jogis, arguably the state's
premier political dynasty, will be able to overcome the Jinx of Sagoun Bungalow will ultimately be decided in November 2008 when
the state goes in for its next assembly elections.
