Built in 1870 by Harrison Chamberlin, Scott Covered bridge is the longest wooden span in Vermont. With an over all length of 277 feet, it is comprised of two king post trusses and a 166 foot Town lattice truss. The latter was the longest wooden span in Vermont. A pair of arches was added later to strengthen the span, but this proved a failure and in 1981 a center concrete pier was added.
Note that the entire structural strength of the lattice truss is achieved with wooden pegs.
