Slough sewage treatment works has been treating waste in the Slough area since before World War One.

At the time the sewage works was built, the local area was countryside and farmland with no local housing and the M4 was non-existent.

In the 1990s, Thames Water invested heavily in the site so it could treat waste coming from the growing population.

It is one of Thames Water's sewage works that uses the solid waste left over from the treatment process to generate renewable energy.

In one year, the site can produce around 3,500,000 M3 of biogas, which Thames Water then turn into energy to power 65% of the site.
