Back in 1925, Commissioner William Busse had elk brought in by train from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Nowadays, you can see descendants of that herd in the NW corner of Higgins & Arlington Heights. Their pasture is fenced in along the bike/walking trail and is a popular spot for families and people walking their dogs. Most of the time it's easy to catch a glimpse of the elk when driving by. However, their pasture is about 15 acres, and sometimes they draw back into the trees.
