The Palm Apartment building located on the north side of 2nd Street between U.S. 41 and Cocoanut Avenue is a rectangular, two-story detached building. The Mediterranean Revival style, stucco-covered masonry building of the 1920s representative of this era, was originally built during 1924-25 as a four-plex. Numerous tenants occupied the four-plex over the last six decades. Some tenants were winter residents, although most lived and worked in Sarasota .

The builder of this structure was Benjamin Franklin McCall. B.F. McCall was born in Madison County, Florida on February 16, 1874. Mr. McCall settled a 150 acre homestead on Siesta Key between 1896 and 1902, which he later sold to his brother, Josh, for $500.00.
