This viking fortress was built around 980 AD. The purpose is debated, but probably the fortress was used by King Harald "Bluetooth", along with its sister fortresses, as a means to solidify his position within the country.

The other fortresses are Aggersborg, Fyrkat, Nonnebakken, Borrering, and finally the "other" Trelleborg in what is now Sweden.
