Intheir region port Kayal,Port korkai,Port kulasai,Port kayalpatnam and the end of sea touched moolakkarai. when the sea touched varandiavel also,the viramehendrapuri the entrance fort of Surapathman was shadowing the gulf of mannar in our place.The kasam is the point of viramahendrapuri, which was demolished by Lord muruga by his sword Vel.So as Lord muruga scrached viramahendrapuri by his sword vel,ie varanduthal ,kudaithal,so this place was called VARANDIAVEL. when surapthman become kravunjaverpai,Lord Murugan himself scrached by his sword called varandiavel.
