The Wall Drug Store got its start during the Depression years by offering Free Ice Water to
thirsty travelers. From their beginning in 1931 to today, the family-owned and run business

  • Visit Wall Drug, Get your Free Ice water, and Bumper sticker. Yes it is a tourist trap, but it is a rest break too.
  • the hooter's slogan fits to this place, delightfully tacky, yet unrefined. If you drive anywhere near South Dakota you will be led by miles of Billboards advertising Wall drug, you get there and you are angered by how big of a tourist trap it is, but then you realize thats what you wanted all along (and you knew what you were getting into). It was an experience, good ice cream and free ice water.
  • There signs for hundreds of miles in all directions touting Wall Drug. It was as classic a road side attraction as the Basket-shaped building and the Worlds' Largest hand Dug Well. Dad did not even slow down when we passed it in 1954.
