Lover's Bridge, Podanur (Coimbatore)

This bridge was built by the Britishers in the pre-independence era of India. It was nick-named as Lover's Bridge. Youngsters from this once-upon-a-time hamlet of Podanur (that was teeming with European Settlers and Anglo-Indians) supposedly used to meet each other at this popular landmark. It was a very sad day in the history of this little place to see the engineers struggle to bring it down when the railways needed to add another track beside the old one beneath it. A strong brick and mortar construction, it out-lived its lease of life and had to be literally blasted away :(
