  • Took a boat across the Dudhni lake and stayed at the Himayvan Hills Resort - Kauncha on the other side for the weekend. The place is as beautiful as ever and the scenery is breathtaking. And this time there even seems to be a working Reliance CDMA pay phone which is great as GSM mobile network coverage is not available. But the amenities there are abandoned and completely run down and maintenance is almost never done. Even all the bathroom and toilet equipment is badly damaged. The canteen kitchen is horrible, filthy and unhygienic. All the kitchen equipment is old and corroded including the tableware. Even basic supplies like bread and eggs are not usually available although they are listed in the menu. Most of the items listed on the menu are not available. There are long power supply outages and there is no emergency generator in the resort. The steps to the villas in the resort have been now refurbished with glossy ceramic tiles. So you have to be really lucky not to slip on them and injure yourself badly which is what happened twice when we were there. The staff are nice and claim that they have made many requests to the management to have all these things looked into with no success. Its govt. owned and run so corruption must be at the top of the agenda
  • Visited Dudhni Lake Himaivan Health Resort - Kauncha last weekend and enjoyed the fresh air, beautiful lake and breathtaking scenery. But the power cuts, broken bathroom equipment, unhygienic canteen kitchen and slippery villa steps are things to watch out for. Ooh! my back still hurts!!! Its a good idea to carry some food supplies as most of the stuff in the canteen menu may not be available and of-course carry a battery operated emergency light for use when the power fails. Booking is done through the Administration of Dadra & Nagar Haveli (U.T) Tourism Department, Silvassa - 396230 Tel +91 (260) 647285 or 641399 or 3264886 When driving from Bombay, take the Western Express Highway, pass Dhaisar and keep driving till you approach the Talasari flyover. Turn right into Talasari under the flyover and drive till you reach Khanvel village. At Khanvel look out for the left turn to Dudhni.
