scenic lookout, watchman
Small, brilliantly whitewashed structure probably dating from the 19th century, with earlier structures preceding it from the 14th. The huer functioned to spot and then alert local fishermen of the arrival of schools of pilchard, and also served as a transmitter of visual communications to vessels offshore. newquay.oldcornwall.org.uk/monuments/huershut.shtml www.flickr.com/search/?q=huer%27s+hut
