Mausoleum of Emperor Meiji (Kyoto)

Japan / Kyoto / Uji / Kyoto / Momoyama-cho Kojozan
mausoleum, place with historical importance, interesting place, historic landmark

Mausoleum of Emperor Meiji, formally called Fushimi-no-Momoyama-no-Misasagi, was built on the former premises of the Fushimi Castle in 1912.
The castle, which was disassembled in 1623 (with many of its parts and decorations used elewhere, throughout the country) was re-created in appearance in 1963 to the North-West from this place, and an amusement theme park sprang out around it. Later, the theme park was closed and now there is a small newbuilt castle surrounded by a promenade park; the castle which used to house a Toyotomi Hideyoshi museum is now closed to the public.
