Loudon Park Cemetery, founded in 1853, covers 350 acres. A portion of the eastern section is owned by the Federal Government as Loudon Park National Cemetery, acquired in 1861 for the remains of Union soldiers killed during the Civil War. There is also a Confederate soldiers section, marked by a statue of a Confederate soldier with two angels. H.L. Mencken (1880-1956), the "Sage of Baltimore", regarded as one of the most influential American writers of the first half of the 20th century, is buried in the cemetery. (credit Wikipedia)
